Reese was very excited to ride in his first rodeo team penning.  He was asked to be turn back rider by Jerry and An Johnson.   Their draw put them up 2nd on Tues. evenings rodeo (8/17/2010) and first out on the last night of the rodeo (9/21/2010).  Each night the team penners also rode in the Rodeo’s Grand Entry.  It was Jobi Tate’s first rodeo, so double thrilling for her to go watch AND to see her Daddy riding.  From Tues. night to Saturday night was a long wait to find out how they would place.  It was a 2 go average and their time held for 2nd place over all in the penning!  A fun family time.

Reese and Christy had an awesome weekend at the regional penning for Cascade Team Penning Assoc. in Lebanon, OR at Wahl’s arena. They won the 12′s class with Glen Sundvall and Chrislyn Prantl AND won the 9′s class with Doug Codington and Steve Smith! A two buckle event.  ”Christy” aka Easter Acres worked awesome for Reese and her previous owners ( Lazy TK) were called right after the event with the good news! (photos below)

Reese and Christy pulled a 3rd place and a fast time check at the April 24th CTPA penning in Albany, Oregon.  They had one team back in the 12′s and all of their 9′s teams came back.  Cattle were tough but the footing got slick and during the top ten after one horse had already lost his footing and his hip went down, the arena was still not worked up. A couple goes later Reese and Christy  went down during their run.  The cutting saddle horn made a good imprint hitting Reese in the diaphragm and knocking all the air out of him.  Christy landed flat on her side hitting on her left hip first and then going flat. We were really lucky as Reese’s leg was under her but was not injured.  She got up and stood and waited for him.  She’s such a wonderful minded mare.  Reese finished his three top ten runs left on a horse of Shorts. (Thank you John & Jennifer).  He’s pretty sore and Christy is still a little short on her hind but was feeling good enough to roll and enjoy her turn out in her paddock today, the day after.  Reese is bruised and somewhat stiff today, but doing ok.  We feel blessed that it wasn’t worse.

Such a nice sunny Sunday morning around here.  BUT, Reese got called back into work, so rather than take off for the arena to ride as he had planned Miss Christy and Mr Tuffy got turned out in the outdoor paddocks instead.  The were both terribly pleased as you can tell from their photos below! :-)

We were so pleased to hear from Jennifer Short that she and John’s own son of Peptoboonsmal “Lil Peppy Boonsmal” is going to be a Daddy again, and with our very own little “Colonel’s War Twig”.  Twiggy has been at Short’s to be bred just a little over two weeks now and was in heat upon arrival at their ranch in Roseburg.  She was bred a day or so after arriving and after being tested today..POSITIVE!  We couldn’t be more thrilled as we just can’t believe this cross won’t want to eat cows! lol  To see some of the good babies he is producing go to our horses for sale page HERE.

This is going to be a fun subject to blog about, and hopefully follow little Twiggy’s trail to motherhood!

A HUGE thank you to The Lazy TK, Ted and Kristi Williams for selling their wonderful mare “Easter Acres” aka Christy to Reese. She is an awesome horse and we loved her even before he got this wonderful opportunity to purchase her from you!

Christy has started off her team penning career with Reese winning him a 2nd place in the 12′s class at the CTPA kick off in Madras, Or and a 3rd place in Open class of the UVTPC Jackpot Team Penning at Roseburg, Oregon.  She and Reese also picked up a 1st place check in the March series Open Sorting at the Flyin’ Dirt Ranch March.  She’s a seasoned veteran that Reese is sure enjoying riding!

postheadericon Tuff update

Reese and I went to Kim’s last night to ride in her arena.  We took Tuff and Twig.  Reese was excited to ride Tuff and I was elected to exercise Twig.  You would have thought Tuff had been there 100 times.  He took a look around when he was led in, and then it was right to work.  Kim had a large rope left laying out in the middle of the arena and a pole from figure 8 practice.  Both laying low in the sand and as Tuff went by he rolled an eye toward them and never missed a beat.  He seems to be very very observant, but nothing seems to rattle him.  He is an old soul, in a 3 year old body.  With only 90 days riding on him at Lazy TK , we actually expected a little more “what the heck is that?” from him, but it was all grown up actions.  Kim could not believe how laid back he was for so young, and was quizzing us all about Ted Williams (trainer).  We need to get some of his business cards to post on her arena bulletin board!

After some good departures on the right leads, some exercise at every speed, some very very light turn arounds and backing on Tuff we decided to head outside and ride around Kim’s big hay pasture.  Tuff looked things over again and rode out like he’d been there a million times.  We are very excited about his wonderful mind.

postheadericon Monday Team Penning Practice

Excited to meet Ted and Kristi Williams at Monday night team penning practice to pick up our 3 year old.  The little gray horse has only had 90 days riding one him.  Ted took him last Monday night and said that he did great.  Said that he was confused a couple of times but fearless and stopped one flying down the wall.  He said Tuff sat down hard on his stop when he ask him and rolled the cow right back to the herd. Very exciting news.  Our little “Tuff” is Bueno Chex / King Fritz, Tuffys Two Spades and goes to Driftwood 4 times.  He’s been a sweetie pie since we bought him as a weanling so we are all very very excited to see how he comes along.  He is one of those colts that is not one of the most beautiful, but is showing us lots of good stuff.  More to come,  hopefully!

postheadericon Changes to webiste

Welcome to our newly redesigned website.  Still working on some of the pages, but hope to finish up by first of the week.

Got started on Vicki Christensen’s new One Trick Pony Woman’s Western Wear line.  She is one busy lady.  Besides designing beautiful western trophy buckles through her “Tres Tios Silver” for years, she has her own jewelry line and just lately had a grand opening to her Llano, Texas woman’s western wear store, “One Trick Pony“.
